“There we sat, waiting for the enormously large spacecraft to make the first move. We were outgunned, and hopelessly outnumbered. Their troops numbered in the hundred-millions, while our small scout force had barely one thousand. We received reports of betrayal from one of our own, a turncoat, as the phrase went in the times of old. Then we saw it, a light. Shining brighter than anything ever before. It outshone the trillions of stars around us, until we were nothing more than a speck in the blinding brightness. We tried to flee but were already too late. There was no booming sound, for in the vastness of space, nothing can be heard. At the last moment before our ship was decimated, our distress signal had been sent to our base of operations. Then everything went dark. Now, we float into the empty space. We only have a minute of remaining oxygen left in our suits. It’s getting… harder to breathe. I just hope that they… got our… dis…tress… signal… “An occupied place is occupied space. Here, there is none. Only outer space. Going as far as the eye can see. For as long as we’ve known, mankind has dreamed of one day joining the stars. However, we did not know what lay ahead, or the dangers we would face. Such dangers were present not only externally, but internally as well.”
